Melodic Minor Scales with formula

Here we are going to know about all the Melodic Minor Scales and their Patterns in a very simple way. You only need one simple Melodic Minor Scale formula to form any Melodic Minor Scale.

If you know the Major Scales and Major Scale formula then it becomes very easy to know all the Melodic Minor Scales.

What are Melodic Minor Scales?

Melodic Minor Scales are the same as Natural Minor Scales only the difference is Melodic Minor Scale uses only b3 (flat third) as compare to Natural Minor Scale.

Even though you don't need to know Minor Scales as well. You just need the Major Scale to form any Melodic Minor Scale you want.

Just use the Major Scale and make b3 (flat third) instead of 3rd and guess what you got your Melodic Minor Scale without knowing any other Scales.

Melodic Minor Scale Formula:

[ whole - half - whole - whole - whole - whole - half ]

or

[ 1 - 2 - b3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - (8)]

So in this formula, the whole step is one whole step to another note (e.g. - C to D, B to C#, Eb to F). And the half step is half steps to the next note (e.g. - C to C#, B to C, Eb to E).

By using this formula you can form any Melodic Minor Scale you want.

Now, Let's see the example of the C Major Scale as a reference to form the C Melodic Minor Scale.

[ C - D - E - F - G - A - B - (C) ]

Now let's use the formula

[whole Step - half step - whole step - whole step - whole step - whole step + half step]

Now let's see what we are getting after applying this formula

[ C - D - Eb - F - G - A - B - (C) ]

Now you know how we got the C Melodic Minor Scale by using the formula with the reference of Major Scale. Similarly, you can apply this formula to any note and get that Scale easily.

Melodic Minor Scales:

A Melodic Minor Scale - [ A, B, C, D, E, F#, G#, (A) ]

B Melodic Minor Scale - [ B, C#, D, E, F#, G#, A#, (B) ]

C Melodic Minor Scale - [ C, D, Eb, F, G, A, B, (C) ]

D Melodic Minor Scale - [ D, E, F, G, A, B, C#, (D) ]

E Melodic Minor Scale - [ E, F#, G, A, B, C#, D#, (E) ]

F Melodic Minor Scale - [ F, G, Ab, Bb, C, D, E, (F) ]

G Melodic Minor Scale - [ G, A, Bb, C, D, E, F#, (G) ]

So now you got the idea of how we get all the Melodic Minor Scales on Guitar by using just one simple formula and Major Scale reference without remembering all the scales. If you have any questions, let me know in the comment down below.
